Dr George Kampougeris MD, MRCSEd(Ophth), PhD

Dr George Kampougeris is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in ophthalmic surgery, diseases of the fundus (the back of the eye), lasers and glaucoma. He graduated from Athens Medical School in 1991 and completed his training in Ophthalmology in Athens in 2001. He continued his subspecialty training by working in the United Kingdom (2001-2006). In 2002 he was elected as member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (Ophthalmology) after successful examinations. In 2005 he completed his PhD in the University of Athens. The subject of his thesis was the pharmacokinetics of antibiotics in the human eye, which was published in part at the British Journal of Ophthalmology.
Between 2003 and 2006 he worked at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, UK as a Staff Grade specialising in diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases, along with ophthalmic surgery and ophthalmic lasers. He performed more than 5000 lasers (diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and others) together with many cataract and oculoplastic operations. In 2006 he was trained as a fellow in glaucoma in Hillingdon and Western Eye University Hospitals, London, UK. He has also trained in Laser Refractive Surgery in Wellington Eye Clinic, Dublin, Republic of Ireland.
During his residency in the UK he actively participated in regular academic teaching, training (medical students, optometrists, optician and training Ophthalmologists) and research. He has published papers in peer reviewed journals (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez) and has been invited to lecture in greek and international conferences.
Since 2007 he is in private practice in Athens, Greece. He is collaborating with the eye department of Athens Medical Centre. He operates in Athens Medical Centre and other private hospitals.
